Privateer II the Darkening

During space fight....

go to the nav screen (alt-N)
type "F"
type one of the following codes and then hit the Enter key:

Save your game in one of the slots. (say slot 10 and note the number of credits you have. (The game starts with 13500) Turn this into Hexadecimals (34 BC) turn this value around (BC 34). Open the save game with a HEX editor (If you saved your game in the first slot, the file will be GAME00.IFF. The second is GAME01.IFF, etc.)

Find the string (BC 34). This number will be in the file twice. Change both values to whatever you think you need; say FF FF FF, and save the file. Restart the game and load the edited save game. Now you will have 16,777,215 credits at your disposal.

NOTE: The player's net worth is key in setting the difficulty level of the game. When you start the game at 13500 credits you are at difficulty level 1. There are 12 difficulty levels. 100000 credits will get you to difficulty level 12. When using the money cheat, just to get enough money to buy the best ship available shoots your net worth way up past that. Players who don't do well in combat flying may wish to avoid this cheat. Also, Origin includes the strategy guide in the Deluxe addition of the game.

This should suffice to buy all the things you need to win the game.

Super hacks:

Here are some things I want to add to my first hack. If you use these, you won't need to use the 'credit hack'. The following hacks will allow you to get a ship and equipment not available in the beginning of the game.

To begin with, create a savegame and give it a name of 8 characters (Like: NEW GAME, if you use an longer or shorter name, the following HEX offsets will be different). Remember which slot you used (I used the first, so the file I will be using is GAME00.IFF). Exit the game and open your saved game with a HEX-editor.

First, the ships.

HEX-offset: Change to: Ship:
15A 00 00 00 00 Drakkar light fighter
                        01 00 00 00 Danrik heavy fighter
                        02 00 00 00 Duress light fighter
                        03 00 00 00 Heretic medium fighter
                        04 00 00 00 Faldari heavy fighter
                        05 00 00 00 Faldari MkI heavy fighter
                        06 00 00 00 Freij heavy fighter
                        07 00 00 00 Freij MkII prototype fighter
                        08 00 00 00 Straith light fighter
                        09 00 00 00 Velacia light fighter
                        0A 00 00 00 Skecis medium fighter
                        0B 00 00 00 Skecis MkII medium fighter
                        0C 00 00 00 Kalrechi medium fighter
                        0D 00 00 00 Aurora light fighter
                        0E 00 00 00 Shaman medium fighter
                        0F 00 00 00 Karnenan heavy fighter
                        10 00 00 00 Jendevi medium fighter
                        11 00 00 00 Icarus Heavy fighter

(Try the Freij MkII prototype fighter: it is the best available)

Now, lets add some equipment.
Every ship has some slots for equipment, ranging from 2 to 7. Each slot has its own address. Here are all 7: 20E
                                216
                                21E
                                226
                                22E
                                236
                                23E
To add something to a slot, just give each address one of the following values:
        Value: Module:
        00 00 00 00 01 Coolant unit MkI
        01 00 00 00 01 Coolant unit MkII
        02 00 00 00 01 Coolant unit MkIII
        03 00 00 00 01 Coolant unit MkIV
        04 00 00 00 01 Auto repair unit MkI
        05 00 00 00 01 Auto repair unit MkII
        06 00 00 00 01 Afterburner enhancers MkI
        07 00 00 00 01 Afterburner enhancers MkII
        08 00 00 00 01 Afterburner enhancers MkIII
        09 00 00 00 01 Shield enhancer MkI
        0A 00 00 00 01 Shield enhancer MkII
        0B 00 00 00 01 Shield enhancer MkIII
        0C 00 00 00 01 BSE virus transmitter MkI
        0D 00 00 00 01 BSE virus transmitter MkII
        0E 00 00 00 01 Signal filter
        0F 00 00 00 01 Warp shields
        10 00 00 00 01 Nuke'em
        11 00 00 00 01 Hi-ex mines
        12 00 00 00 01 Proximity mines
        13 00 00 00 01 Viral mines
        14 00 00 00 01 Decoys MkI
        15 00 00 00 01 Decoys MkII

Just get the best.

Now, we need some guns to fry the baddies.
These is a maximum of five slots for guns, you can find them here: 28E
                                                                        296
                                                                        29E
                                                                        2A6
                                                                        2AE
To add a gun, just change the value at these offsets to one of the following:
        Value: Gun:
        00 00 00 00 01 Stream laser
        01 00 00 00 01 Stream Laser MkII
        02 00 00 00 01 Volt laser
        03 00 00 00 01 Flux beam
        04 00 00 00 01 Flux beam MkII
        05 00 00 00 01 Mass ion cannon
        06 00 00 00 01 Kraven laser MkIV

The last two are the best choice. The Kraven laser is the most powerful gun in the game, but it overheats a bit quick. Although I still think this is the best weapon, because of its incredible power. If you use this beast, no enemy will last long!

Last, but not least, we want some missiles to decorate our ship.
The maximum amount of slots for missiles is 7, and you can find them at the following HEX-offsets: 24E
                                256
                                25E
                                266
                                26E
                                276
                                27E

Just change value to one of the following:
        Value: Missile:
        00 00 00 00 01 Snipe
        01 00 00 00 01 Brute MkI
        02 00 00 00 01 Brute MkII
        03 00 00 00 01 Python
        04 00 00 00 01 Disrupter
        05 00 00 00 01 Banshee
        06 00 00 00 01 Proximity
        07 00 00 00 01 Stingray torpedo
        08 00 00 00 01 Hellraiser torpedo

This is all I've found so far, but there's more to come.

As I've said before, if you use a name with a different length, the HEX-offsets will change. If your name is 10 characters in length, all offsets will move 2 places, so 24E will become 250.

If you have any comments or want to add something, please let me know.
Just a quick addition to the hex edting portion of the Privateer 2
cheat: Under the section where it tells you how to edit what gun your
ship has, use 07 and 08 to get the capital ship guns (yellow and red,
respectively). These guns use zero power, and if you load all 5 slots
(actually, you can load 7 slots, but I don't remember the addresses),
you will never again have a problem with enemies. About 2 direct hits
with obliterate an enemy fighter's shields.

Use a hex editor. If you use 07 00 00 00 01 or 08 00 00 00 01
these are two new guns that you can't get on the game
but can it through the hex editor. They won't overheat
and does very massive damage. There suppose to be from
the cargo ships.

For your Privateer cheats, someone listed how to change your ship. Well,
that byte he listed can be changed to other values, which are all the other
ships in the game. I forget which number exactly, but if you change it to
30 or something (non-hex, i think) you'll get the Extra Heavy Fighter. It
IS the best ship in the game, since it's speed is about 640 or so. Has up
to six guns, but since it's not one of the original ships, if you go to the
EDIT SHIPS menu in the booth, the game will crash, so you have to load it
out using hex. Also, when editing missiles, the number that comes around
4 or 5 bytes after the missile placement number is how many missiles you
get. Change it to 99.
